Mandatory reporting under the CSRD is now limited to companies with more than 1,000 employees and more than EUR 450 million in net turnover, and listed small and medium enterprises were removed from scope by Directive (EU) 2026/470. The Voluntary Standard is, as the name says, voluntary.

So why produce the sustainability report?

Because the pressure does not come from the law, it comes from the market: banks assessing credit, large clients who need data from their suppliers, tenders that value ESG criteria.

And there is a new advantage: from financial years starting in 2027, those clients cannot ask you for more than the Voluntary Standard contains. Having your sustainability report in that format is both the answer and the limit of what can be required from you.
